vdB 149 and 150 are blue reflection nebulae near the center, which reflect the light of a nearby star or stars. The energy from these stars is just enough to give sufficient scattering to make the surrounding dust visible. The darker nebula is Lynds Dark Nebula 1235 and part of a shark-shaped dark nebula complex. It is likely an Extended Red Emission nebula (ERE). These ERE are galactic dark nebulae at high latitudes that become visible through illumination by the interstellar radiation field.
