Messier 22 or The Great Sagittarius Cluster is an elliptical globular cluster (GC) in the constellation Sagittarius. M 22 was discovered in 1665 by A. Ihle. The GC is about 10.600 light years away from earth and spans over approx. 100 light years on the night sky. This object is only one of four GC known to contain a planetary nebula and two black holes.
