Messier 88 (M88) is a beautiful spiral galaxy located around 61 million light-years from Earth in the constellation Coma Berenices. As a member of the Virgo Cluster, it resides in one of the richest galaxy regions in the nearby universe. M88 is known for its tightly wound spiral arms, which are filled with gas, dust, and regions of active star formation. The galaxy was discovered in 1781 by Charles Messier, a french astronomer.
